All areas in the Danish healthcare system and all private authorised health professionals are covered by a publicly funded compensation scheme no matter where they work.

Everyone who receives treatment or purchases medicine in Denmark is covered by the Patient Compensation Association and can file a claim for an injury sustained as a result of the treatment or the medicine.

Being harmed after treatment or after the use of medicine can occur:

  • at the hospital
  • at your GP
  • at a nursing home
  • at a disability care home
  • or in another situation.

It does not matter if the institution is private or publicly owned.
